Artisanal by Maison Martin Margiela

 The Paris Couture shows have just started and the Maison Martin Margiela team presented one of its best collections so far.



The Artisanal concept is based on old garments and objects gathered  from all over the world, given a second chance to become something new, unique and fascinating. All pieces are handsewn and their manufacturing may take up to 170 hours of work.

 The Spring/Summer 2011 collection is inspired by flowers in prints,colours and shapes.

 The collection consists of geometrical dresses, boleros combined with simple bodies and overalls.

 The variety of materials used is huge: iridiscent leather, cotton poplin, Liberty fabrics, taffeta,polyester,crepe, silk and lycra adorned with sequins made of plastic bags, pearls and coq feathers.The colour combinations are also impressive: blue, fuschia, orange and candy pastels.

Y-3 Menswear

 Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas celebrate 10 years of collaboration with an awsome interactive show presenting the Y-3 menswear collection for A/W 2011-12.

 Models marched on a treadmill installation, overlaid with film footage of open roads and valleys. At the same time there was a presentation of the film This is my Dream, a documentary about Yohji Yamamoto and the preparation of the collection, directed by Theodore Stanley.

The presentation also included an impressive colourful exhibition of Adidas for Yohji Yamamoto footwear.

 

 The collection is inspired by nature and the concept of escape including blazers, trenchcoats, parkas and high boots in army green. At the same time there was a burst of japanese prints on bomber jackets, shirts, knitted leggings and sarouel pants.

 The accessories line includes printed sneakers, white Chelsea ankle boots and wool trapper hats.

Reconstructing Klederdracht

 Designer Ricardo Ramos presented his F/W 2011-12 collection titled Reconstructing Klederdracht at the Instituto Cevantes Berlin, in an interactive show personally dressing the models on stage.

 The beautiful collection consists of dresses with complicated folds and well-worked pleats, adorned with rich embroidery and bead work by Carlos Escalas Vasquez, complimented with humouristic 50's inspired cardboard glasses by Cantemir Gheorgiou and futuristic metal headpieces by creator Nina Van Houten.

Kirsty Mitchell

Kirsty Mitchell's photography work is a spectacular piece of art. Inspired by the beautiful stories her mom used to say, she created the amazing Wonderland series, a collection of fairytale characters, all shot with natural light and in real locations.

Kirsty's background as a costume designer and fashion creative has a great influence on her pictures. She personally attends the styling using extraordinary couture costumes with vivid colours and spends several hours in searching for the perfect location.

All her stories are adorned with beutiful props, special flower combinations and impressive set designs, all created by a strong design team consisted by friends and volunteers.

The preparation of each shot may take up to one month, depending on the weather conditions and the studies required on each detail. Make up artist Elbie Van Eeden, a long time partner of Mitchell, spends many hours on hair and make up,as all the stories demand complicated hair props and colours that match the scenery.

The Wonderland series took up to one year to complete.

Sruli Recht

 Designer Sruli Recht presents his first menswear collection for A/W 2011 titled When Gravity Fails, a futuristic collection, full of pure Icelandic feeling.

 The award-winning designer uses all the latest technological techniques such as laser cutter, video projectors and virtual illustrators, designing each sample by hand on a small mannequin, never on paper.

The line consists of 55 styles, pants, coats, leggings, shorts, jackets and cardigans, all made by Atlantic leather and Icelandic wool. The collection is complimented by a variety of accessories like shoes, boots, bags, gloves and silver jewellery.


 The presentation of the When Gravity Fails collection is currently running in Paris by the 24th of January.
