What comes to your mind when hearing the word Bals? Baroque-style ballrooms, femmes fatales, extravagant masks, luxurious floor-sweeping gowns and the lovely sound of a waltz? Exactly! The above images become more vivid when opening the new super-glossy edition of Assouline titled Bals, edited by British historian, author and journalist Nicholas Foulkes. The amazing 308 pages book features nine of the most exceptional private costume parties of the twentieth century from the Romanov dynasty, to the Art Deco era of  Paris and the glam seventies, through over 250 illustrations, with social commentary by and for great personalities like Truman Capote, Paul Poiret, and Cecil Beaton, also memory notes by Jacqueline de Ribes, Helene David – Weill and Marisa Berenson.

 ReMap3,the art fest of Athens started tonight with the full of our participation downtown Athens.Energy, a really high artistic level and some of the best works we've seen lately dominated the top art galleries of the city, giving the signal for the hottest winter season coming soon.

Paintings, installation and videos took over the beautiful buildings of the athenian cult areas giving the message that everything is still going on. And it does.

Favourite artists? Poka Yio with his amazing Bordello Nacional theme held at an abandoned 5 floor building and H.O.P.E with his extravagant collages and spiritual inastallations.

The Hilton Brothers

Paul Solberg and Christopher Markos a.k.a. the Hilton Brothers are an artistic duo famous for their photographic diptychs, evoking the idea of identity with their works, the question who took which shot. They are both masters of photography and use of light and work collaboratively since the eighties, sharing the same vision and creating a new approach in image.

After eight years in the making, their new 350-page book titled Tyrants + Lederhosen features their complete editioned works along with new ones will be premiered and exhibited at the Catherine Houard Gallery in Paris, as part of the Photo Festival of Saint-Germain-des-Pres from November the 4th to January 2011 to January the 21st 2012.

Y-3 S/S 2012 Collection & Backstage

Yohji Yamamoto’s  S/S 2012 collection for Y-3 is inspired by London and the spirit of the upcoming Olympic Games. The famous designer presented a unique combination of sports and London streetstyle with bold checks, printed t-shirts, utilitarian jackets and assymetrical lines, all made by new breakthrough fabrics and teamed with funky shoes.

James Casebere

American artist James Casebere is dealing with constructed photography, a really special form of art, since the late seventies. Working with miniature handmade models in his studio, he has the gift to recreate towns and abandoned places, challenging the boundaries between reality and imagination. His work is inspired from architectural, anthropological, art historical and cinematic sources with an American sixties feeling.

His new Landscape with Houses series is titled Credit, Faith, Trust, currently running at Lisson Gallery in London.
